He graduated from Yale in 1934 with a BFA and, in addition to a prolific painting career, co-founded the Portland Center for Visual Arts and the Artists Equity of Oregon. Married to Sally Haley, they moved to Portland in 1947 where they became very active in the artist’s community. He died in 2004, and is survived by two sons, Gian and Michael.
