Title

Elizabeth Keith: The Orient Through Western Eyes

Abstract

In the present exhibition Miss Keith's tremendous technical skills are immediately apparent. How amazing is her mastery of the difficult art of cutting the blocks in the traditional Japanese manner. Little of the slavish imitation of previous masters appears in her cutting technique. In the original prints her shrewd and sympathetic observation of the commonplace, everyday happenings take on an even sharper realism than do the reproductions.
