- Exhibition Title
The Realm of Revelation: Vision and Imagination in Later Korean Art
- Gallery
Huh Wing Gallery
- Start Date
15 January 2000
- End Date
9 May 2000
- Description
The Realm of Revelation explores the idea that many Korean artists of the nineteenth and twentienth centuries functioned essentially as visionaries, using thier art to reveal otherwise invisible aspects of the world. Focusing primarily on popular "folk" painting traditions, the exhibition exemplifies the varying ways in which such representations as landscapes, Buddhist hells and paradises, lands of immortality, and the cosmos itself, provided opportunities for artists to imaginatively envision sights (and sites) that could not literally be seen.
